This walking experience invites you to imagine Fifth Avenue as it once appeared during the height of the Gilded Age when the most influential families in the city built grand mansions that lined the avenue with astonishing opulence. As you explore this legendary stretch of New York you will learn about the magnificent homes that once stood here and the architects who shaped them, as well as the cultural and social atmosphere that defined the era. Your guide will bring these lost residences back to life through vivid stories and historical images that reveal the ambition, luxury and dramatic personal lives that played out behind their towering walls. You will discover which of these great houses vanished with time and which remain transformed for modern purposes.
As you continue along the avenue you will revisit the world of Millionaires Row and gain insight into how wealth and influence sculpted the neighborhood and set the tone for an age of extravagance. You will hear tales of elegance, rivalry, private events and whispered scandals that once captivated society. The tour concludes with the rare opportunity to step inside one of the surviving Gilded Age mansions now serving as the cultural services center of a major embassy. This final moment offers a compelling contrast between the past and present and allows you to appreciate how these remarkable structures continue to evolve while retaining their timeless beauty.

MAKE SURE YOU ARE ON TROY’S TOUR! He is a great and safe driver. His attention to detail about his guest is shockingly amazingly great. Grab the front seats if you can!

We did the Trolley tour with Breakers admission. Great history and fun driver (Troy!) the Breakers was amazing! So interesting!

We did the 90 minute trolley tour. What a great experience. Troy was our tour driver and being a local he had all the inside knowledge and was so informative. Such a great personality he had us laughing the entire time. Beautiful properties to see. We then took the free bus over to the Cliffwalk. We went from Forty Stairs up to Ledge St. From there it was maybe 2 blocks to a bus stop and back to Travel Center. Make sure to get a parking ticket voucher from bus driver. Our parking bill went from $27 to $5.

My tour was great, the seats were comfy and my guide was very knowledgeable. He told us funny stories of the some of the newer residents of New Port and much of the cities history. He also gave advice on hot spots to visit, great restaurants to eat and places to avoid.

A great tour with a knowledge and fun driver. It is a nice way to get a quick overview of Newport’s history and geography. The Breaker’s tour was interesting but busy. The grounds are wonderful with ocean views.
